Welcome to our new principal, Mr. Arnold Zuñiga

Dear TAG family,

We are very excited to announce that Mr. Arnold Zuñiga will become the new principal at the School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview!

A product of El Paso ISD public schools, Mr. Zuñiga is the first in his family to earn a college degree (his sister is receiving a PhD this weekend!), graduating from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s in psychology and a minor in biology. He began working for DISD in 2003 by teaching third, fourth, and fifth grades at Herbert Marcus Elementary. He has served as assistant principal at Cigarroa Elementary and principal at Stemmons Elementary while earning a master’s degree in educational administration from UT-Arlington in 2008. Since 2017, Mr. Zuñiga has been the principal of Dallas Environmental Science Academy (DESA).

At DESA, Mr. Zuñiga realized that his students, while excelling academically at a magnet middle school, did not have the option to play sports. He partnered with a local YMCA to give his students the opportunity to play soccer, volleyball, and basketball. A huge science fiction fan, Mr. Zuñiga is known for encouraging his students to read, a favorite hobby of his. His office décor reflects his love of both Darth Vader and the Dallas Cowboys.

Please join the faculty and staff in welcoming Mr. Arnold Zuñiga to the TAG family!
